Affective education is all about the development of the whole child. Whilst recognising the importance of academic/intellectual learning, Noel would argue our schools need to pay much more attention to developing children’s social emotional understanding so that they can cope with their, and relate to other children’s, emotions. He believes we need to evaluate how we teach so that there are far more opportunities for experiential and co-operative learning and creativity. He would argue for a curriculum based on developing our human capacities; stimulating children’s vitality, creativity and sense of wonder.
He is currently developing his knowledge in this area as well as researching the latest theories about the power of narrative (storytelling) whilst undertaking an Education MA at Leeds Beckett university. He will complete this latest qualification in Summer 2021.
